​Random drug and alcohol testing is a workplace safety measure designed to identify substance use without any specific cause or suspicion. Unlike “for-cause” or “reasonable suspicion” testing, random testing selects employees at unpredictable intervals using a neutral selection process. This helps maintain a safe, productive, and compliant work environment.

How it Works

Selection: Employees are chosen at random, ensuring fairness and unpredictability.

Testing Method: All testing is conducted using a urine sample.

Chain of Custody: A strict chain of custody procedure is followed from the moment the sample is collected to its analysis, ensuring accuracy, security, and legal defensibility.

Substances Tested: The screening typically checks for common drugs of abuse, including (but not limited to) cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines, opioids, and benzodiazepines. Alcohol testing is also be included.

Collection Process: Selected employees will need to visit one of our accredited clinics, where trained staff will oversee sample collection in accordance with regulatory standards.

Consent: Consent is required from the employee. VitalSigns Wellness will provide a template for you to collect consent.

Resulting: Testing normally takes 7 working days and results will be sent to the confidential email address which you provide.
